Edward Augustus Travis

Edward Augustus Travis was the first African American law student at the College of William and Mary. Travis entered in the fall of 1951 and graduated in August 1954 with a B.C.L. degree. Travis was living in Hampton when he entered law school. Travis was born on October 16, 1911, in Reed's Ferry, VA. He attended high school at St. Paul's in Lawrenceville, VA. Travis attended Hampton Institute and graduated from Florida A&M. According to Alumni Association records, he died in November 1960 in Newport News, VA.
